Here’s one reason I do more and more work on my iPad: it’s mine. I have a work-provided MacBook Pro that’s so loaded with security and backup software that, though it’s a powerful machine, it is always running hot, or slow, or both. Those programs generate background processes that run even when the machine is asleep, which means that if I put it in my backpack for a while it gets too hot to put on my lap — if I want to carry it around I need to shut it down and then boot up again when I’m ready to work. So, to the question of whether an iPad can be a serious work machine: I devoutly hope so.
