For some days now I’ve been looking for an argument against the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh that doesn’t assume that the right answer is known to every decent human being, that doesn’t treat doubt as an unmistakable sign of misogynistic rapist possibly-murderous white-male privilege, that doesn’t depend on slogans and sneers, and that assesses the case on the merits and the available evidence. Until today I had looked in vain. But now I have found one, and in my judgment it’s devastating to Kavanaugh’s candidacy.
