February 19, 1473: Nicolaus Copernicus was born in Royal Prussia in the Kingdom of Poland.In his 1543 text De revolvtionibvs orbium cœlestium (On the Revolutions of the Heavenly Spheres), Copernicus claimed that the Earth revolved around the sun.
This map is not from that volume, but is instead a facsimile of a map from Cellarius’ Harmonia Macrocosmica.
